July 4-18, 2026 - Stanford Neurodiversity Project

In July, I spent two weeks at Stanford as part of the Stanford Neurodiversity Project. Almost every day, we had a different seminar. Stanford University professors, visiting lecturers, researchers, and clinical experts joined us to talk about neurodiversity from different perspectives. But not everyone in the room was there to study neurodiversity. Some of the participants were neurodiverse themselves. That made the conversations especially valuable to me.

I was developing Mini-Talks, and instead of only reading research or trying to answer my questions on my own, I could ask them directly. I could listen to researchers who had spent years working in the field, but also to people who could speak from their own experiences. I asked questions about Mini-Talks. I listened. I took notes. And sometimes, what I heard made me go back and reconsider something I had already designed. One of the people I had the opportunity to meet was Professor Lawrence Fung, Director of the Stanford Neurodiversity Project. I had arrived at Stanford with Mini-Talks already in development. For two weeks, I had a very unusual opportunity: to keep developing it while surrounded by many of the people I would normally have been trying to learn from through a screen.
